I remember seeing Head on AMC, back when they showed good movies and showed them commercial-free, late one night after some serious hard partying. Ryan and Scherrie were with me, along with some other people, but I can’t remember who. It was some SERIOUS hard partying. If I hadn’t written down the name of the movie, I would have never remembered it. Anyway, I loved the movie and thought it was great and agree with you that I will punch in the face anyone who says they don’t like the Monkees. I love the fact that it was written by Jack Nicholson and feature cameos by Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Frank Zappa, Victor Mature, etc. You know it’s a good movie when all those people agree to be in it. Or you know they were all really high when they agreed to be in it. Either way, it worked out well.

Also, it appears “Panther White” is the same “Panther White” as “White Panther Chairman Panther White” (penultimate paragraph)–besides hanging with the MC5, he was also a close friend and manager of Iggy Pop until Iggy turned into an asshole. (I’m not 100% sure this is the same Panther White, but how many could there possible be?)

As for “The Helpful Little Fireman” there was formerly a page with a preview clip here (Google cache here), but I’m sure you probably saw that for yourself. (Oh, and just in case you forgot, hours of fun can be had at the Internet Archive’s moving image collection. Remember the high weirdness of “One Got Fat”?)

I couldn’t find anything on the chair-leg-rape-squibs thing, but it sounds just delightful.

I’m glad you included th fact that Gibson was the director of ?Poltergeist II: The Other Side … yeah, just so I could post a link to that pic of Julian Beck (”Just love gettin’ around. Love talkin’ to people. Even on a rainy day.”) .

I remember seeing Frank Film in high school in Durham back in the late ’80’s. My Freshman English class had a film section to it and one of the films we viewed, along with Citizen Kane, was Frank Film. It was probably my favorite and most memorable film from the class. I was actually just thinking about it the other day and wondering how I could get a copy of it. It was one of the most psychedelic movies I have ever seen (along with the Monkees’ movie Head). A few years after freshman English, I was at Appalachian State University attending a summer science program when some friends and I decided to check Frank Film out of the library and watch it. I still can’t believe they had it at the ASU library. Anyway, I just wanted to share that with y’all. Ahhh… memories.
